I love writing and this is not a moment or a temporary status. It’s a permanent state of spirit. Writing is one of the biggest joys in my daily life. The Nursery
“The Nursery” novel is a bitter-sweet story of a girl – Mirela – who does not seem to break the borders of a very normal way of life. Only after she is forced to prostitute for one year and a half in Istanbul, her life suffers “moves” of rhythm. Together with other 11 colleagues she gets in a shelter for trafficked girls and prostitutes, shelter named the “nursery”. The owner of the “nursery”, lady Iulia, is an incurable altruist woman and she cares about all the girls, without discrimination and despite their smaller or bigger sins. The adversities between the girls manifest through the creation of two camps – “the hookers” and “the trafficked”. The camp of “the hookers” has the majority, with nine representatives. In a very short time, the “nursery” begins to have problems because of the lack of funds and raises the interest of a billionaire who wants to buy the shelter and to demolish it in order to create an access road to a future plant of him. The nine “hookers” are bribed and convinced with work places to leave the “nursery”. The troubles come then one after another. One of the three remained girls – Gratiela – is sexually abused by a retired man on the roof of the shelter and the same retired man tries after a couple of days to rape her. Mirela defends her and hits badly the aggressor. Without having a witness to prove her self defense, Mirela is inequitably thrown into jail.
Lady Iulia is forced to sell the “nursery” to the billionaire, Gratiela dies in a stupid accident and the release of Mirela seems compromised. But the obsessed retired man cannot control his rape passions and is caught while he was raping a nurse in a hospital. Mirela is released from jail and lady Iulia remains with her in order to support her to begin a new life. But the woman who had sent Mirela to the pimps from Istanbul recognizes Mirela in a mall and begins to harass her in order not to testify in a potential trial. Meanwhile, lady Iulia becomes frien with the tycoon who had bought the “nursery”, “metamorphosed’ as by a miracle by his new wife. The billionaire helps the two women to escape from the traffickers and to arrive in Los Angeles with changed identities. In the New World, the two women truly begin a new life, without the obsessions of the past. A revulsion occurs in their lives. And in America they discover that between them there is much more than solidarity and support…
“The city without money”
The novel “The city without money” is – in order to use an oxymoron – a realistic utopia. In Steak City, a city with 60.000 inhabitants, for the commander of the garrison – the general Locosinho – money and power represent his reason to exist. Having as accomplices his deputy commander, the colonel Killenberg – an officer very fond of executions and murders – and the mayor Clementos – a smooth-spoken doer – the general succeeds to take the command of the city and to apply an unseen plan, the one of completely closing the city and to surround it with 5-6 meters depth special ditches in which sulphuric acid is poured in order to prevent the escape of the inhabitants outside the city. Steak City is connected with the outside world only through four mobile bridges, like a castle without walls. Locosinho takes the decision to establish “The Money Brigades”, who have the role to confiscate the salaries and pensions of the citizens every month. Practically, the Steak City inhabitants remain moneyless and in exchange of the banknotes incomes they get an imposed amount of food products. As the people do not have money anymore, the barter becomes the key word in the city.
Steak City becomes the city of the laws established by Locosinho.
Endowed with a flamboyant native brain, but which he uses for negative purposes, the general adopts with a stunning frequency more and more abracadabrantesque laws an orders which limit a lot the liberties of the citizens. Under the pretence of the reestablishment of the social equity, the Great Food Storehouse is built in the city and becomes the only place from where people can take their food salaries and pensions or change them with other food products. Locosinho’s genius is controversial till paroxysm and makes him take as secondary wife a former prostitute who had tried to murder him.
Paradoxically, Locosinho has moments when he takes reparative and right decisions, when he does micro good facts, but without falling into laxism. While the money sums raised by the brigades of Locosinho become bigger and bigger, the liberties of the inhabitants have a dramatic and radical regression. Some of the people who protest against Locosinho’s regime are sold at auctions to representatives of foreign leaders or tycoons.
The general Locosinho is in the same time main and negative character. The names of most of the characters make Anglophone or Hispanophone allusions to their treats, defects or jobs: Locosinho (Spanish “loco”-fool), Killenberg (“to kill”), Railwayson (“railways”) or Judas Coiny.
The punitive imagination of the general becomes directly proportional with his intelligence. The cult of the personality increases day after day. Locosinho is in a perpetual negative evolution, and the other characters are supporting actors on the scene of his unmeasured ambitions. A master of the replies and counter replies, the general has the control – with different speeds – in all the dialogues with his subordinates or the different people to whom he interacts. Nothing seems to disturb the anomalous laws from the city. But four good friends decide to create sporadic rebel attempts. But one of them gets killed by a bullet and another is punished to be devoured in the plaza by a pack of dogs.
Locosinho takes again a paradoxical decision and hires the coordinator of the attempts – the winegrower and former lawyer Andrew Kingsley – in his team.
The plans of the general enter a new era when he succeeds to transform Steak City into a state-city, after a simulacrum of referendum and with the tacit and well paid approval of the President.
The deputy commander of the garrison, the cruel colonel Killenberg, humanizes as by miracle when he falls in love with a young girl. Despite the opposition of the general, Killenberg runs away from the city with the girl and a big amount of money. The biggest bad surprise for the general is still to come. Andrew betrays Locosinho and convinces the soldiers to turn against the general. But the general succeeds to escape from prison, while Andrew becomes the new commander from Steak City. Do the swing stages stop here? Not, absolutely not. The end of the novel is a big swing stage, a proof of extremely devilish creative manipulation.
